Listed as New Mexico’s “Favorite Fast Food”, passing through for the evening we stopped to enjoy Route 66 in Gallup, that was the location we had chosen for the night! Blake’s is “famous” for its Green Chile Burger which Clint had ordered and dived in as soon as it was set on our table by our server who was more than helpful for a couple of passerby’s that had never had their chain food. (Now, mind you, we support the smaller “mom and pop” restaurateurs as much as possible but this article was hard to pass up.) Now…back to the regularly scheduled program here. He dived in, not knowing what to expect and even doubted what he was about to engulf his taste buds with. I watched. I waited. I anticipated a reaction. (I also ate, but not what they’re known for…) Any minute now, he would pick up his Green Chile Burger, which was about a normal size for a burger. He bit into it. And the reaction I got was NOT the reaction either of us were expecting. He bit into the burger and his taste buds went crazy…so crazy that his eyes lit up with excitement! He was so excited to tell me what he was tasting that I had to endure what seemed like a cow gnawing away on some hay or grass. He says, even to this day, that the flavor was shockingly surprising and bursts with a mixture of a normal burger with a Mexican flavor and is surely a flavor to remember! When we have a chance to pass through New Mexico again (and we will eventually), we will be sure to stop again and indulge in the famous Green Chile Burger at Blake’s Lotaburger! The sad part is that it is NOT a national chain…but it SHOULD be! Drop by New Mexico…and have a bite!
