Food & Drinks

This page will be for our review of cool restaurants and interesting new dishes we come across on our travels

I do a lot of research on where to eat and what to eat in each state we travel to and sometimes it’s based on articles I find on the internet. My tabs on my browser on my phone would suggest that I need a new hobby but I can’t stop looking things up at times and (most times) it drives him absolutely crazy and he just wants to tell me “Stop!” But he doesn’t because he loves the things I find. I only follow one page of a celebrity and even that page isn’t 100% reliable because we have encountered locations that are no longer in business since the celebrity had visited. However, I do try and find something similar to it.

Two of the primary things I search for no matter where we go are: 1 – tacos and 2 – BBQ. I have yet to find the best of any in any one location. So far, the best tacos (in my opinion) was in Fresno, CA. And the best BBQ has been kind of scattered based on what type of meat. The best brisket we have had was in Texas (duh!) but the best pulled pork was in Florida. I’m still skeptical to try any BBQ chicken anywhere because if we’re being honest, the best BBQ chicken I’ve ever had is my own!

We hope that when we post food adventures that we are able to convey the tastes that we experience through some catchy descriptions. We don’t always use elaborate wording to describe the foods, because we simply just aren’t all that impressed, or we can’t find the words to describe the food. However, we are always quick to share a Google review or our own basic synopsis of what we experience; everything right down to the reason we chose the location and whether we feel that the staff was attentive to our orders. We also believe that “word of mouth” is the best thing for a business and would be appreciative of people following in our footsteps and at least give the place a try and share whether they liked or disliked it as much as we did.

The other thing we also try and do when selecting certain “chains” or “styles” or “themes” is consistency. For example, most “diners” have similar menus, but I always try the same dish at the different diners. I might order a patty melt or eggs, bacon and toast; because no matter where you go, the basic ingredients may be the same, the cooking methods could be different or maybe they use a different brand of cooking “oils” (butter, oils, lards for the cooking surfaces) and each of those elements can affect the taste of the exact same dish. I know it may sound weird to some, but if you order the same dish at various locations, then you can legit claim the right to say that a particular location has the “best” of whatever dish you’re trying to discover the best of. How can you expect to find the best – let’s use crab legs – crab legs at a seafood restaurant if you order shrimp at one, then lobster tail at the next, and calamari at a 3rd and…well, I think you get the point. At least, I hope you do anyway!

Let’s move on to what types of locations I try and find. Remember when I mentioned all those tabs open on my browser? here’s a few topics I have open: best seafood in every state, best BBQ in every state, oldest restaurants in every state, or even favorite fast food in every state. I even have an article open to the most iconic bar in every state as well. We like to mix it up once in a while by having a cocktail or 2 in an esteemed adult beverage location. It’s an ideal way to unwind after some of our earlier-in-the-day’s excursions.
